Holidays and Special Services

In addition to the regular Sunday services, Fort Myers UCC offers special services throughout the church year.

Lent and Holy Week

  • Ash Wednesday – Dinner in the Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. followed by a 7:00 worship service, including imposition of ashes for those who wish them.
  • Wednesday Lenten dinners – Dinners continue throughout Lent at 5:30 on Wednesday and include some type of learning experience. In the past, we have studied Psalms, read a book and discussed it, or had a series of speakers on a specific topic.
  • Palm Sunday – 10:00 a.m. worship, including a procession with palms
  • Maundy Thursday – 7:00 p.m. service
  • Good Friday – The sanctuary is open from 12:00 – 3:00 for meditation
  • Easter Sunday – 10:00 a.m. worship

World Communion Sunday – Takes place on the first Sunday of every October, celebrating Christian unity and ecumenical cooperation.

Advent and Christmas

  • Hanging of the Greens – The Fellowship Committee leads us in decorating the church for the season. This is a big project that takes place for two days after Thanksgiving. All are welcome to help and refreshments are provided!
  • Christmas Cantata – The Chancel Choir presents a musical program, usually on the 3rd Sunday in Advent.
  • Children’s Pageant – The Sunday School teachers and their helpers work with the children to present a Christmas pageant, usually on the 4th Sunday of Advent.
  • Christmas Eve – Traditional candlelight service with choir and favorite carols. Come explore God’s unpredictable, astounding love in the wonder and mystery of the incarnation.
