Fort Myers UCC offers Sunday School for students from Kindergarten through Grade 8. The Sunday School Class meets following the Time for Youth during the worship service, and is taught by volunteers from the church. Sunday School continues during the summer.
Our one room classroom of great kids participated in an outreach of love and support towards a little 9 yr. old boy named Jacob Thompson during our Sunday school time on Nov. 5, 2017. Jacob was diagnosed in 2014 with neuroblastoma and has endured chemo and radiation over the years since he was just 6 years old. A campaign to help him celebrate Christmas early was found on Facebook and our kids made handmade cards, noting well wishes and drawing penguins and happy faces during class and these were mailed to him where he is hospitalized at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. It is never easy to lose a loved one, especially the young ones. We hope he felt our love and support to him and his family at this immeasurably difficult time. Jacob died on November 19, 2017.
Thanks to Dave Minnick for bringing it to our attention, and to Karen Kelly who was teaching that Sunday and headed up this project.
We continue to welcome classroom teachers. Even if you want to volunteer just one Sunday a month, we are glad to have you and will provide you with a curriculum.
