13th Sunday of Pentecost

Bulletin for August 30th, 2020

Prelude – “The God of Abraham Praise” – Thad Goodwin
Meyer Lyon, arr. Michael Burkhardt

Announcements and Centering

Call to Worship – Rev. Wesley Snedeker
One: God gives us one day at a time:
Many: Long enough for laughter to follow any tears;
One: Deep enough for prayer and silence to dance together;
Many: Time enough to help someone in need;
One: Plenty of time to notice beauty and praise the Maker;
Many: Sufficient time to build a bridge for forgiveness or tear down a wall of resentment;
One: The right time to embrace friends, smile at strangers, play with children, sing praise to God.
All: Praise God for this day we are given.

Unison Prayer of Invocation
Behold, Lord, empty vessels that need to be filled.
Lord, fill them.
We are weak in the faith; strengthen us.
We are cold in love;
warm us and make us fervent that our love may go out to our neighbors.
We may not have a strong and firm faith;
at times we doubt and are unable to trust you altogether.
O Lord, help us. Strengthen our faith and trust in you. Amen. Martin Luther

Children’s Sermon

Special Music – “Credo” – Linda Fairleigh

Offertory Invitation

Offertory Music – “This is a Day of New Beginnings” – Thad Goodwin / Amy Maneval

Unison Offertory Prayer
When we are asked to take up the cross of Christ,
we know that much will be required of us.
Take these monetary gifts and the hearts that give them
and feed our enemies, and give drink to those who are thirsty,
and may evil be overcome with good.

Pastoral Prayer

Silent Prayer

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.

Postlude – “Holy, Holy, Holy” – Thad Goodwin
John B Dykes, arr. Lani Smith
