Joining the Cause of Social Justice

Over 200 interfaith persons (8 from Fort Myers UCC) assembled at Naples UCC on July 30th to lift up the plight of farm workers. The Bilingual service was centered around Frederick Douglass’ “The Limits of Tyrants.” Then the faithful met at Wendy’s at 4114 Tamiami Trail North to demonstrate and ask Wendy’s leadership to sign and participate in the Coalition of Immokalee Workers’ Fair Food Program. Eighteen of the major food suppliers in the USA have signed. Wendy’s has not. The demonstration was to ask passersby to boycott Wendy’s. Through our efforts, we look to a ‘new day’ that is dawning in U.S. agriculture thanks to the Fair Food Program.
