Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
August 16, 23, 30 at 3:30 pm
Hailed as “required reading” by Toni Morrison, Ta-Nehisi Coates’ letter to his son following the killing of Michael Brown by police, Between the World and Me, engages the issue of race in America in intellectually challenging and deeply personal tones. As police killings continue and protests over the murder of George Floyd persist across the U.S., there is perhaps no more important time than now to dig into this text.
FMCUCC’s GROW will be hosting a three-part book study on Between the World and Me. We will read the book together and reflect upon our own preconceptions of race, the racialized roles we play in society, and the task of change.
This book study will take place August 16, 23, and 30 at 3:30 pm. It will be conducted over zoom. Please buy the book with plenty of time and read part 1 (p. 1-71) before the first session. Reach out to Community Minister Wesley Snedeker at wesleysnedeker@gmail.com with any questions.
